Tips on sampling?

Learn the best and most accurate way to find the tempo of the sample using your DAW of choice.
Also learn about EQing out the bass frequencies of your sample, not always necessary but if you a putting in your own bassline you will need to do that.

It doesn't have to be music to be a sample. The obvious thing to do is to grab a disco loop for a house track, things like that. Get creative and sample anything, stuff off Youtube, found sound, things off the telly, rare forms of music and audio from around the world.

Simply sample, slice, throw some FX on it and play around! :-)

MASCHINE is awesome for this, it can cut your sample to slices then it assigns them to your pads and there you go. Just load up some beat and fool around with the samples. You can create some "exotic" loop, then heavily process it, etc.

Study producers you like, analyze the music and visit the following site then compare the original to the sampled version.

Browse | WhoSampled

Practice, practice practice. One good way of practicing is find accapellas who's tempo is listed then make beats with the same tempo and add the vocals. It's a good way of working with artists before you actually start making tracks for people. Embrace originality. Change the speed of the record and the pitch.Study musicians from 20 and 30 years ago from all different genres for ideas and inspiration. Peep how he keeps dropping the needle till he finds the groove he likes. It's helpful for those who dont know exactly how to search for samples.
