Hey Guys, Im kind of newer to this website and i was looking to get into Sampling. I am a big fan of Harry Fraud and Kanye West. Now lets be clear, i'm not dickriding at all, i love their music and i think recreating it would be pointless and close to impossible. I Just have a couple of Quick questions for you guys. I Use Fl Studio. Do you guys know what genre of music that Harry Fraud and Kanye West Sample? I Know Kanye uses a lot of soul stuff, but what does Harry Fraud mainly use? And do you guys know any good places to find samples online? i dont have a vinyl player. Thank you so very much guys

There is not one genre that producers dig for samples in, we listen to ALL music, I like Harry Fraud too, and he samples alot of different stuff, so does kanye... From Soul, Rock, International Records to Psychedelic. You really gotta just open your mind to listening to all kinds of music

I may be no help here because I have a record player and pull a lot of my samples from vinyl....they are cheap now a days...record palyers...I would suggest grabbing one and go diggin! It gets real ****in addicting! Nothing like a good crate session though!

However since you do not have that setup you can always "E-Dig" from youtube and other places as well. It is just a matter of getting what you want to sample into the program you are using and "choppin or loopin" it in your program. There is no real clear explanation on how to chop per say...that is all really done by ear. Loopin on the other hand can be fine tuned and is worth watching tutorials on if you do not know how to loop. good luck

I would also vote for a turntable, because then you can just pick up random records at a record store. Doing the same on the internet isnt really as easy if you dont konw any names you wanna look for.

+ im with IrishGent, records is the shit!! I love digging, collecting and discovering new music. every record is worth its money, and even if i didnt find any samples i developed my understanding of arrangement and taken a music lesson basically.

I agree..every record is worth its money...digging not just about the samples...digging is a Damn adventure...an experience...I always make time to dig...I'm very in touch with the OG style of beat making...breaks... loops.. chops..minimal changes in the beat...

They sample all genres. As a producer/beatmaker, you want to have an open ear to all genres, as you'll never know what you could like and find. I use FL also....start by going on WhoSampled.com and looking at your favorite beats by those two producers. Usually, there's a side by side comparison of the original and the sampled song, which are YouTube embedded. For the more obscure samples, check out the YouTube channels that upload these songs. Giving you the exact places of where we find our records kinda spoils the fun of it.

Hi, e-digging is a great way to get started into sampling if your getting into sampling for the first time. I recommend subscribing to youtube channels, and searching for FLACS and WAVS of music you want to sample. You definately want to look for 60s/70s Soul/Rnb/Funk/Jazz if your getting started, . Avoid sampling mp3's for professional music use, but for practise its perfectly fine. Most importantly learn the different sampling styles and techniques, and you'll be good. Alot of stuff is available on youtube, so check it out.

^i agree with flac or wav being preferable, unfortunately there's far less available in these formats.

but there are professionals who use MP3 (clams casino, some others) it's just gonna be harder to make them sound good.
