Hi!!! Everyone! I'm thinking of sampling Greg Dykes and the synanon choir's 'rise, shine' , but J.cole already sampled from it. I know i won't get sued coz i'm not like a big producer, but im just curious about the process here. If i'm tryin to sample, do the copyrights belong to Greg Dykes or J cole? If u could explain this process, i would deeply appreciate it! :) And is it o.k to sample from it?

Do whatever you want, but make your own flip original...Plenty of producers have sampled the same songs just used different parts...

The copyright belongs to the original artist/label.

And just because someone else has sampled something doesn't mean it's off limits to everyone else forever.Just make sure whatever you do is hot.

Peace

just don't sample it in the same way as other producers.

if i have to hear one more clams casino type imogen heap sample...

When I first started sampling, instead of looking for my own samples I would just hit up whosampled.com and search for the sample of a particular existing song and then try to flip it differently. That was just my way of practicing. However, these days if i find a sample, I would check first if someone has already sampled it. If not, then cool I'll do my best with it but if so, I'll refuse to listen to the flip that the other producer has done so it doesn't interfere with my own ideas beforehand
