Matching instrumentals to a sample

I have a sample with vocals and some backing guitar. I want to use the whole sample and back it with supporting stuff like pads and a lead and some more guitar layered over. How do I line everything up. For example I have the chords for the song but how do I make say a piano hit the chords and line up with the guitar in the sample?

trial and error

beat detection

play in real time

calculate tempo by tapping into a tap tempo calculator and then set project tempo to match (turn morphing/stretching off on the sample first)

then identify where each chord hits in the sample and go from there (bar, beat, 16th, ticks)
