How to set tempo with sample?

Well I recently started sampling and it's a lot of fun and I have a lot of great ideas but when it comes to recording since I have to set the tempo first and then record with the metronome it always sets me off and i have to adjust it which limits what I want to do.

Now i know I can turn off the metronome while recording but then I'm not on beat and then the kicks, snares, and drums cannot be quantized to the sample!

    Thanks!

What is your daw? In Ableton, you can quantize your sample or do it by hand with transients.

their are a few ways to get your sample and tempo together. some people start with the temp they want they song to be and time stretch (or rexify) the sample to match. other people start with the sample and set the song to match.

i usually start with a temp in mind. I use kontakt as my sampler, so time stretching is a breeze. just set my in/out points, hitpoints or length and the sample is stretched to my song's tempo. i can also chop the sample up, layer it on the keyboard and play along with the song's tempo.

I am interested in this as well.

I work with samples all the time. 1st I lay down the sample then I work out the rest of the beat around that sample. Im using FL Studio 10 and im new to that particular software so if anyone can tell me how to make the sample tempo be on time with the rest of the channels (drums, bass lines, etc) I would appreciate that!

@PintoDaWop You either pitch the sample, timestretch the sample, adjust tempo to the sample or a combination of these.
Of course, it's also possible to chop up a sample and make it fit everything else.
