How do you guys keep track of time units during songs?

Is there some way you guys kind of put markers on a beat to divide it into smaller units?

That way it's more manageable to chop and especially when it comes to time stretching.

For right now I'm just looping stuff, and that's working fine but I want to start chopping out individual hits.

But it's hard to keep track sometimes of how long a particular hit is, especially if it doesn't fall on a beat.

This also makes it hard to time stretch if need be.

if your just chopping sounds Id worry less about the tempo and more about making sure the sound is right. As for markers idk any current popular programs that do it. I havent needed them since I used soundforge. I think Pro Tools does but I forget.
