the problem im having is that when i filter in fl studio it sounds too muddy and too messy. does anybody know how to fix that problem? please provide good info and please no negative comments. thank you.

when you say filter....what exactly are you doing?

If you're boosting the low end, that can cause your sound to get muddy or just sound messy...

usually, when something is muddy....a cut around 250hz or so can do the trick...

but you really need to provide more details and possibly a sample of what you're talking about...cuz your question is pretty vague.

the sample is a jazz song that has a good bass to it. im trying to take out a piano and drums and just hear bass.

thats not going to work the way you want it to.....since all the instruments/sounds are mixed down already, in one track...you're not going to be able to EQ them out of the mix.........you can try a Low Pass filter, but you'll most likely still hear some drum hits and maybe piano too. But that'd be your best bet...unless you just play out the bass yourself in the piano roll.

Make 2 copies of the track the original and the one u plan to filter. Filter the bass loop against the original until it sounds good. Also turn off any resonant filtering that may be on. Idk FL filters but there may be some on by default or that filter may suck and u may want a new one. It may also be a loop that doesn't work well for this technique. With such a vague question its hard to say

FL's sampler/channel settings has a Resonance knob.....but by default, it is off........best way to do what Xabiton said is to send one copy to 1 mixer track....and send the other copy to the next mixer track......and load up an instance of Fruity Parametric EQ 2....and if you don't know how it works, open the FL Studio Help/Manual...it explains it pretty well..cuz the Parametric EQ 2 has like 7 or 8 different types of filters to choose from...so its good to know what each does, and when each should be used....but in your case, a low pass should do the trick as i stated above.
