Dilla played his drums live and used samples.

I would strongly suggest hunting for your own drum samples though!

think about it...every song you've ever heard has it's own drum track....there are millions upon millions to choose from!!!
 
Dilla used a mpc 3000, numark portable turntable, korg esx-1, and a technics sl 1200 turntable. Oh yeah, and a Mbox and mac laptop for recording.

^^^ he uses alot more than that but they are his main item i saw a pic one of his production rooms its full of keyboards live instruments btw when he was in hospital *last year* he used portable turntable and a sp 303

I have several J Dilla drum kits... But I don't use them, I think it's kinda wack to use other producers' sounds (even though these kits aren't of course J Dilla's library, they're just sounds jacked from Dilla songs)
