    What up people.

I've been sort of lurking, and reading on the board learning how i can try and incorporate a turntable into my set up. In my reading i saw someone mention a TTUSB and i researched it and am considering getting it possibly tommorow or so.

But before i commit to one, i was wondering if such a thing existed, that would allow me to play vinyl as well as using the turntable as a controller so that I could scratch things digitally. (maybe in pro tools, using the scrubber tool, or intergrating it into the traktor software. *shrug*). I don't know too much about DJ'ing so if this is a silly question, please forgive..

Yup, time-coded vinyl. NATIVE INSTRUMENTS : HOME | HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE FOR MUSICIANS, PRODUCERS, DJS, GUITAR AND BASS PLAYERS
There are also other manufacturers with similar stuff, Rane Serato is a bit like the standard, and then there's Mixvibes.

Im reading this, and even went and found a video on youtube about it, and i'm still somehow having a hard time understanding how it would work digitally. lol. This is like rocket science to me. I'm seeing that Time-Coded vinyl is different than regular vinyl. So are you saying i would need a time coded piece of vinyl to control the digital interface THROUGH the traktor Audio box? And with 'regular' vinyl, it would simply feed into the computer via the audio I/O cords?

And would this setup work with a TTUSB for example?

Will work with it. You just need the box between your setup and computer. And you play records as well as use the time-coded vinyl.

Of course, hearing no mention of having a dj-mixer, I'd have to question if it is any use getting the setup for scratching as you would be limited to babies and scribbles (you will need the dj-mixer's crossfader for other scratches). And I would strongly suggest getting a good direct drive turntable, a belt drive is good for listening and sampling but won't do if you are intending to use it for scratching.

Ok. I understand now. I did a lot more reading the other night, and also went up to guitar center and spoke with the guys over there. I ended up ditching the TTUS because it felt like crap, and because it was belt driven instead of direct drive like you mentioned, and i got the Stanton T.92.. I love it.

I didnt mention a mixer or a second deck because i dont really want to get serious with the Dj thing. The only thing i was interested in scratching maybe a few vocal samples.. You know, primo style... But thats all. No major scartching.

Im gonna end up getting the Traktor A10 box with the time coded vinyl to go along with this. For now this will do.

You will probably end up getting a dj-mixer as it plays a major part in scratching. All the cutting of the scratch sample is done with the crossfader. If you do decide to get one, might be a good idea to look for used ones if you're on a tight budget.

I personally wouldn't even considering scratching without one.

Yea, i already see what you're talking about. The little playing around I've tried to do so far has been enough proof that this cant be done with just one table.. at least not the way i wanted. lol. Regardless, I have to say, This Vinyl thing gives me a feeling like nothing else.. It's ridiculously fun hunting for record shops, and even playing the records themselves. I'm only 23 years old, so i've never played a piece of Vinyl in my life.. It feels legit. and the sound is a LOT better than CD's in my opinion.. My bad.. little sidetracked there. But i'm probably gonna invest in some better decks and a mixer in the future.. just cant do it now. I saw a used set of "technic" turntables at guitar center.. It was like 5 or 6 hun for the whole set.
