Turntable 4 Sampling?

If any1 cud explain how is a turntable is used for sampling tht wud be great ive seen a few people mention it now..
 
you take a record and put it on the table. the one that turns. then you put the needle on the that record and it spings around. the noise from the record gos out into where ever youre recording and thats how you sample from vinyl.
 
y do u need to sample into a mixer first?...why not into the mpc directly?

The signal from a turntable is like a microphone... its super weak. You need a preamp to get it up to a decent volume. Most DJ mixers have phono preamps built into them. Thats why he suggested it... although I thought the MPC has a turntable preamp.
