Trouble chopping breaks: mpc2000xl

when i chop drum breaks to get just a high hat, snare, kick etc., i get a problem (especially with snares) where it sounds like it cuts off a little to quickly. since the 2000xl has no effects like reverb built in what should i do to get the drums to sound fuller

You could get the fx card which would give u on board fx or you could choose different samples or let the drum sounds breathe a little bit. I usually leave the air in the sample between chops to avoid issues like this

so if a hi hat is too close to a snare on a break do u need to use a dfferent break?

Sounds like you're cutting/truncating the snares tail too short

sometimes
