Seperating a guitar line from vocals

I know this question has probably been asked a lot, but I was wondering is there a way to seperate a guitar melody from a vocal.
I'm trying to use the FFT to filter out the vocals, but still having no luck. Feels like the vocal's frequency is near same as the guitar... can anyone help me out or point me to articles on filtering in hip hop sampling? Thanks!
 
Not going to happen. You will lose significant amount of frequencies from the guitar sound and the vocals will still be audible. Replay the guitar yourself or look for another guitar sample.
 
Or you need to find the song with all it's recorded tracks... I doubt that it's actually possible to find it though.
 
They occupy the same/similar frequencies, so you can attempt to filter out one or the other... but itll just muddle your sample and most likely leave you w/ undesired results. This is just one of those things you gotta get over, awesome samples you can't flip the way you envision!
