Is Sampling Worth the Trouble?

i'm a rapper/producer in china. i've finished an album that has some pretty sample heavy tracks. i was originally gonna put the album out independently. but now i have a deal on my table from a major, so i need to think seriously about this.

is anybody gonna come all the way out here to hassle me about sample clearance? there's very little money in royalties here, and i'd imagine my sample violations pale in comparison to all the rampant piracy?

i realize it's hard to answer that question w/ certainty. but can anyone in the know offer some thoughts or advice? thanks.

I wouldn't worry about it unless your music is being marketed and distributed worldwide. If not, owners of the songs you sampled will probably never come across your material, and since you're not a major figure, they wouldn't really try to sue you because they'd probably waste more money from filing a lawsuit than they would gain from winning it, so don't worry about it too much.
