Is Sampling the Grindwork of Producing?

I personally believe that sampling and digging for samples can set a music producer apart ... going through songs and songs finding sounds, vocals and instruments ... turning the samples into your own sounds ... to me, that process can really help a producer set himself/herself apart. I even made a mixtape out of samples! (DMeth.Bandcamp.Com). But, it takes a lot of hardwork and time spent.

What do you guys think? Is sampling the Grindwork of Producing?

I think it is, because all the producers i like sample. Of course composing is good too, depends on what you prefer.

If sampling is the grind work then you ain't working that hard. Networking is the grind work. finding the right network of solid people to work with.

I think you have to combine both. Sampling and composing. In order to really be considered great.
I always find that opinion strange because only people who make beats have it. I am more along the lines of who ever makes the best songs wins I don't care if its sampled or not.
