Placements being a sample based producer

Listening to the big tracks over the last several years most of them has been sampled based production or samples w/ layered instruments. But were the business side of the industry is at these days labels/artists don't want to pay for sample clearance as well as producer fees so it makes me question do sampled based producers still get placements as much as producers who self compose?

Depends on how good you are. Ex. Kendrick's album GKMC had an all-star producer lineup, and the majority of the record was sample based. A lot of big producers are able to get labels to pay for sample clearance because they'll make much more money than they're spending in the long run (ex. Just Blaze, Dre, Primo, Clams Casino)

It depends on the buyers connections. Sometimes these labels our the rights to some of these samples or have ways of negotiating and bartering for other services

I'd imagine if the track is worth their time they'll clear it

I agree with Takedown and def dont let that stop u from sampling if thats what u like u gotta do u first leave all that bs for later

Clams is sick with it, but he's not a big time producer, he shouldn't be listed with Dre, Pharrel, Just Blaze etc when talking about big time producers.
He hasn't even touched an album yet until ASAP Rocky's album drops.

But he's right though, you need money and backing behind you to clear all that ish, but if you have the power to do so it's worth it. Like dude above said the whole Good Kidd Madd City is pretty much sampled and the sample in particular makes the beat.

But pretty much though, sample based instrumentals are by farrrrr the best instrumentals. When I think of production without sampling, the first thing that comes to my mind is Trap/Dirty South production, which for me are my least favorite beats.

Productions with samples, I feel you can listen to without lyrics for the most part. The sample usually adds that little something that sounds sweet to the ears.
But Trap beats for example, without lyrics are not doing it for me.

It's seems that samples and boom bap is making a slight comeback with Kendrick Lamar, ASAP,Curren$y, K.R.I.T., Harry Fraud's production..Even Drake uses sampled shit..I think with the new crop of dope artists..they are using a lot of soulful sampled shit..But at the same time the trap is still jumping lol..If it's good I'm messing with it..
