MPC - cutting off pads

Is there a way that I can somehow cut off more than 2 pads with a single pad with the mpc 2000 xl? I would like for all pads to cut each other, it baffles me that such a basic thing cannot be done.

There's a function on the MPC wich allows you to cut the sound of up to two specific pads when you play another one. But it's limited to two pads, you can't cut more than two other pads in each pad, wich I find ridiculous. What are mute groups? I'm gonna check my manual for that.
 
2000XL doesn't have mute groups. The only way is the one you already mentioned yourself. I would try setting pad overlap to note off (I mostly use note off for my chops) or simply chop the samples so that there isn't need to have pads muting each other off.
