Illegal to sell sample Instrumental? (using less popular artist)

Most the artist I sample are dead and aren't really popular. Could I get in trouble for selling my beats?

technically you could say that it's the artists responsibility to clear the sample before you sell it, but if one of the songs turns out to be a hit, you could get in trouble if the sample wasn't cleared

Yeah you should have something in your contract that says clearing samples is the responsibility of the artist.

Copyright's expire after a while... look into that

Of course you can get in trouble.

Someone still owns the rights to songs after an artist dies.

If you sample songs without clearing them, you are liable.
