How long do you guys dwell on a sample?

Hey guys,

So I have a question.

How long do you guys dwell on a sample? like when you know you had enough and say "i cannot sample this song"

everytime when i chop the part that i like from a old record, it just doesnt sound the same unless it is looped.'
This is when I noticed when people say "finding a good sample is really hard" or "finding a good sample is ones talent and ability"

for me i dwell on a song max 20-30 min.

I dont know if im giving up too early or that im doing something wrong.

any piece of advice will be helpful

I don't ....I hear what I like.... chop it up and use it.I pretty much have the track done as I'm listening to the sample

Just make the chops fit into the drums! If it doesn't change up the drum pattern until they do.

When I have trouble with a sample I just cut out 2 bar loops and spread 16 even chops across my pads. You can really manipulate the loop and do some fine tuning after you play something you like.
