I usually work with a core library of less than 10 drum samples (kicks/hi hat/ snares/claps) that I've carefully worked on to give a satisfactory sound. Since I mainly produce trip hop, the serve their purpose in most of my songs. Also, layering synth percussion over samples can help
 
I have ten breaks that I choose from. Its easier for me cause I know which drums go with a certain sound I am going for. I will probably add some more drums sooner or later just to keep things fresh but with eq'ing and compressing my drums never really sound the same.
