Soul is the best. Always the easiest and more lyrical/emotional thing to go to. I love finding sick old R&B stuff as well. Also, sampling some old rappers songs is a good idea: no one's heard of them, and it will sound more modern. (Just my idea).

The soul/funk/disco music is usually the main preference. Usually when searching for samples you should look to see what instruments are being used that helps alot.
