Clearing samples

I'm sure this has been mentioned before, but how do you guys (if you do) go about clearing samples when selling beats? I've seen many sites have the contract state that it is the responsibility of the artist to clear. Is that legit though?

Everytime I've sold a beat to a major label artist (or any big artist with some radio plays) they always took care of the clearing. Usually it goes that way as far as I know.... I don't charge much for beats so I wouldn't wanna pay lots of money for a sample clearing. Most of the time I'm not even worrying about the sample clearing because majority of the people I produce to are very underground with not much fanbase. So I'd say it also depends who you are working with / selling beats to.
