Mastering is like the art of making your track "sound" as loud as possible. it also has something to do with having it sound as good as possible on different sound systems

I usually don't directly attack people here, but clown a little here and there, but for someone with almost a year and a half here, and 365 posts, that quite possibly might be one of the worst answers to that question imaginable.

Mastering is an art, but its not to make the track loud, its to create a production master of all your tracks, this means, to create a sameness to the track levels, any fixes they need to do, and yes mastering usually does make the track sound louder, but its main focus is to create a Master CD for dupilication and distribution....

I'm going to go out on a limb and agree with MT3000.

Mastering is the creation of the production master from a collection of individual mixes. YES, there's usually processing involved, YES, there's usually (sometimes extensive) correction and "nudging" involved (which is generally why it's not a good idea to work on your own mixes - but that's a long story for another thread), and of course, the more serious steps of insuring translation between systems and the actual creation of the physical production master/premaster. It's the handshake between the production side and the replication side.

Yes, it's also where "loud" usually comes from (grumble, grumble) and no, there's no "magic program" that just makes it happen.

Every single professional release - Every single "indie" release for that matter, goes through some sort of mastering phase (99 times out of 100, at a dedicated professional mastering facility). Once in a blue moon (so rare that it actually makes freaky news articles in the industry pages), the processing portion is skipped (Iron Maiden's recent album as an example around 8 months ago) and the master is made from a flat transfer of the mixes.

Not even answering your question, through hearing your beats I just got a little tip for you if you don't mind. It sounds very, mono. Try using panning, and you'll notice a huge difference in your beats, they will become wider and more spacey. Also all of those frequencies of your different instruments/samples generally won't clash, with extra help of eq'ing, etc. of course.

how can you claim you are deep in the production if you don't even know what mastering is?

    edit:

iZotope Ozone 3 is a good vst for mastering that you can use under fruity loops
