What does it mean to play in Mono?

mono means 1

in music it can be paired with other word fragments to take on distinct meanings

mono-phonic 1 sound or 1 source/location
- this can be applied to recording, as in only recording 1 track instead of a stereo (mix) track, or playback, meaning 1 speaker position playing back all of the project or all speakers in a system playing back the same signal (as in a club system is generally monophonic)

mono-phony 1 note: i.e. only one note can be played by the device/vst at a time - generally true of all woodwind and brasswind except for special techniques such as Bartolozzi chords (aka multiphonics) and most percussion except the keyboard percussion and distinctly true of early synths
