    Trouble with the Bassdrums presence

hey guys! this is my first post in the forum, but I think its awesome theres a place where aspiring producers as well as seasoned producers can share tips and what not.

My question is, for one of my productions I am using a heavy kick (sampled it from Vengeance VES2 Bassdrum 65) and it sounds great on its own, but I really love sidechaining my bass to the kick to get that pump feel, but ive been experiencing the kick being to present in the mix taking away from the other sounds. What are some tips on how to lower the presence of the kick a little bit while also keeping the kick powerful? Is there any Eq'ing I should be using? Would love any suggestions

What's the threshold on the sidechain compression? If everything else in the track cuts out COMPLETELY when the kick hits, of course it will sound too hot. Try messing with all of the controls on the sidechain compressor.

Heavy bass and kick can be a pain. I dealt with on a tune recently (see the sig). Not sure bout the sidechain part, but here's a couple things I tried. A) try panning. I used auto to have the bass centered, but when the kick came into the tune I pan it hard the opposite of the kick. B) I used a reverb on the kick which created space, but I'm not sure if this will work for u depending what type of kick your using. C) adjust you levels or use a filter on your kick and bass to eliminate some of the cross-freq overlap. D) use another type of kick. Just some thoughts, I sure some others might offer some useful suggestions.

Depends on what you mean by "present." Post an example or there's no specific answer.
