    Tips / Equipment for recording hip hop vocals.

    Hey everyone. I record hip hop vocals at home..
    I have a supreme cu - 1 microphone and a M-Audio Fast Track MK II sound card.


    check out finish what i started. Im on the first verse.

    The vocals sound pretty foggy. Applying compression and EQ will help a quite a bit. If you want to take your quality to the next level it would be a good idea to invest in a M-box from M audio and a better microphone. Check out tweakheadz.com for some basic information about project studios and equipment.

    I agree with above statement with the correction, start with your recording chain (mic, pre-amp, audio interface, monitors) if you want more of an instant upgrade, get a really good pre-amp ($700-$1000)asap...you will here a huge difference in your vocals when the pre-amp levels are set correctly...

    I suggested an M-Box as an affordable way for a beginner to get better quality. It would naturally be the next step up from a sound card but if you have a couple extra thousand dollars laying around (most beginners don't), I'd agree you'd want a pre amp, interface, and some nice monitors. M-Audio is a great brand for low cost products.
