    pair of PC speaker.

Basically I have been using my Fostex PM1 monitor speakers for a while now when producing. One thing I tend to not (personally) do too much of, is check the tracks on some crappy speakers. I thought of this after listening to a track though my mates normal desktop speakers.

IMO, you should try your mixes in other systems, because your monitors are optimized to reproduce the sound at its best.

I've found old crappy mono radios can show distortion that most stereo systems can't. And it's a good idea to listen to it in mono (kelly industries stereo tools VST is very good for this), in order to make sure L/R channels isn't cancelling each other.

    modeling mixes.
    boom boxes around your house
    headphones
    tv(via xbox,playstation or dvd)
surround sound system(if you have one)
    your car stereo

from there the best place to monitor mixes.. WALMART :d
thry have so many different stereo's to chek your mixes or you could go to best buy or fry's

having reference speakers to model your mix in the studio is always a good thing.
    i use a pair of sony speakers with a 10inch woofer, 5inch mid and 1inch tweeter and/or bose 201's

The idea here was that they're crappy in the first place. You'll get a feel how your mix sounds when the speakers aren't too hot. An old boombox is a nice reference too, as is why the Yamaha NS10's are kept around in many studios...
