layer them 3 times, pan 1 hard right and 1 hard left (but keep them proportional) and leave one in the middle

    Wrong........
Alrighty then. You use the Attack on your mixer channel to determine how hard the kick hits. The Release on the mixer channel determine how long or short the kick sounds. The Decay determines how abruptly the tail on the kick sample stays or cut out. The Cutoff on your mixer is important as well. Use this function to cut off or raise the frequencies of the sample. Time for me to party. 1

"Fuller" could mean almost anything. Usually it means you don't like how it sits in the mix.

You can try various combinations of tuning the sample to a different pitch, mixing 2 different pitches layered together, some EQ to make one element or another "pop", EQ other stuff in the btrack so that it sits differently in relationship to the clap(s), try some gated reverb ... the possibilities are endless.

To be honest the best claps I have in my collection are the Scott Storch claps. I don't even remember where I got them but I know it was for free. I always tweak them to make them my own.

well what i did was messed around with the compressers, and stereo imagers, maybe then you might get the sounds you like. but it is better to try your own thing, you'll feel mor accomplished =]
