Preamp upgrade time!! - opinions more than welcome

Hey guys. I'm pretty excited. I have money for semi pro upgrades!

I'm looking to start off with a quality preamp in my signal chain. (after I get that out of the way I'll be upgrading my mic and converters one step at a time). I can drop around $500. I'm not looking to spend much more than $750.

I'm looking for (or at least I think I'm looking for) something with a lot of headroom, great gain, and quiet internally. I'm not sure if I want a colored sound or a clean one honestly. Its going to be used for rap vocals and singing.

I've been looking at the UA 610, Black Lion Auteur, and FMC RNP. No clue which way to go lol. I'm not great at mixing so I want to get the best possible sound with the least work

Ps. Right now I use a FW410. And an AKG perception mic.

No prob... i been looking up sound clips. I think i'm going to go w/ the BLA Auteur. I've listened to your shootout before and from memory the BLA sounded a little cleaner to me on those clips. I listened to somem ore shootouts and i think that's the direction i'm going to go in.

I'm thinking about pairing it with a Bock Audio 195 that Morning Star and a few others have been raving about on here. Any experience w/ it? Would it be a good fit with the Auteur?

I would definitely look into the Golden Age Pre-73.

The Bock sounded sweet when I used it on acoustic for a song with the Auteur. Would definitely be a solid chain! The site is fixed now links should be up now.

Ya that would be nice but then I'd need 3 of the same mics. With guitar its a lot easier...

    Guitar > Loop pedal > Amp > 1 mic > Pre

If it were vocals you can't record the same line 3 times because each one could be slightly different. So you have to set up 3 mics, get them all close and have the singer sing and record all 3 at once. So maybe if I ever get 3 of the same mic I'll keep it in mind to try it again.
