    Moulding vocals

    Hey everyone,

Just curious about moulding vocals. With some vocalists, their vocal chords and style gives them a sharp wave pattern that will blast through a mix, similar to how a saw wave does or the tone of a saxophone or guitar lead whilst some other vocalists with have a softer wave pattern that blends in and around a mix but not through it, similar to a sine wave or the tone of a flute, or pads. What is the best way to morph an manipulate a smooth sparse vocal into a lead ie. a flute into a sax, a sine into a saw for example? Gain and EQ adjustments don't seem to do this. Any ideas?

EQ the vocal track and instrumentals so that the vocal cuts thru the mix. Use compression and reverbs to add an area of space around the vocal track.

    Tweak and tweak.

But BEFORE all of this, you must have a good recording.
