I own a Behringer C-1. It was really inexpensive and it's a really good quality mic.

I'm a big fan of the Yeti Pro by Blue because its only 250 dollars, and you can use it through a usb port or hook it up to your audio interface using an XLR output. I recommend the XLR output because that gives the best quality, but haven't found any big problems with using it through usb except for the occasional latency issue which rarely happens. The best thing to do would be to start off using it through usb(if your on a budget), and save up for a good audio interface which you can then hook the Yeti up to for better quality.

"...good quality mic...that sounds professional...but doesn't cost a lot of cash..."

Ain't happening. You get what you pay for. Don't ever forget that.

If you buy a hundred dollar mic, you're going to end up spending another couple hundred additional in the future when you realize that you're not getting the "professional" sound you're looking for.

If you want professional sound, BUY PROFESSIONAL EQUIPMENT.

And Samson makes starter products. You won't get pro results with their equipment.

    Peace.

    AKG.

I'm able to make good semi-pro music w/ my Perception 120. However... it's moreso about mixing my vocals with the beat very well, as opposed to the mic.

However... the next level mic for me will surely help get the full pro sound i'm looking for (in addition to acoustic treatment).

So yeah... i'd highly recommend starting w/ an AKG brand mic. Nothing but good things to say about them so far.

I OP's desire is quality, he needs to avoid a usb mic.

People (in particular beginners) are jumping onto USB mics because of the affordability. This is understandable, but not good at all. USB mics are great for podcasts or hobbyist recorders, but NOT for quality recording.

    Peace.

I am more than pleased with my AKG C3000B, I was definitely expecting far less quality then I received and it looks sexy too lol
