Hi Friends,
Can you recommend good mixing headphones under $200? I am currently using AV30 which is not giving me accurate sounds on low ends.
Thanks in advance.

I know this is a long shot and you want professional equipment but a producer down south by the name of DJ Toomp told me about the gaming headphones for PS3 and Xbox 360. It sounds bizarre and well it is but the fact is that certain headphones (gaming) have high quality tech and specs in them for instance the triton AX-Pro has 4 speakers in each of the headphone cups itself so for both ears you get 8 speakers total with the ability to control each and every speaker with the amp provided. you get highs, mids, and great lows. cost me 150 at bestbuy and they are over the ear.
DJ toomp track list: Ludacris, T.I, Rick Ross, Maria Carey, jay z, kanye and bone thugs n harmony.
I won't go babbling about how "Headphones are bad for mixing" cause' I myself have mixed with headphones and produced Ok sounding orchestral mixes. So I would recommend:
- Audio Technica ATH M50. I've tried a burned-in pair for a couple of weeks. They sound good. For me it's OK for mixing and I find them comfortable for hours of listening. Plus they're rugged and tough so it would last for years.
- Another one to consider is the Sennheiser HD 203. Now this one I haven't really tried on for long but my friend had one and his mixes sounded great over time. It lasted him about 2 years but he was a bit clumsy so.. yeah. The Bass of the HD 203 can seem a bit exaggerated, but once you get use to them they can produce clear sounding songs, especially on making the vocals sit nicely in the mix.
- The Behringer HPM 3000 is also a great pair. Don't be fooled by the price tag, these headphones promise that "you get more than what you pay for" as with most Behringer products.
Well that's my top tree recommendations. But what Scaircrow said actually makes a lot of sense. You may have noticed that I mentioned "getting used to" your headphones. Just like with Monitors your ears get used to them. I have used Mid grade headphones on some of my tracks. At first I could not get the right sound but as I burned them in and listened to music I'm familiar with, my ears got used to the sound. But this will never guarantee a perfect mix as with Studio Monitors or Class-A Audiophile Headphones. (it's your call if you believe in headphone burn-in or not, and I would understand if you think I'm crazy for believing in burn-in, but based on experience and a bit of testing, I really believe in burn-in)
If you didn't give a $200 ceiling I would have recommended the Sennheiser HD650s or the AKG K 240 II etc.
Being that said, I hope I helped.![]()

Thanks CmRob and Scairkrow. I will definitely do research on recommendation you provided and pick one of these headphones.
