Head room and levels explanation?

A lot of the time the term head-room is used, i usualy mixdown at around -6 db

but what is it generaly used for?

why -6 db (or whatever your perferance is) why not mixdown at 0db with a limiter?

Should your kick and bass always be the loudest??

thanks in advance

You could easily find all this information yourself if you'd just search around a bit.....

At least give it a try before you ask!

you can create a headroom how big you want, it is used for the mastering engineers so that they have room to add their "master" on it ... but that if you know, you will send your track to a professional mastering company ....

For hip hop, kick and snare are usually the loudest, the bass uses a lot of frequencies, so it is already loud by nature, you don't need to put too much bass, just enough ,, having a good bass is really something that can make your mix stand out so good luck ! You don't want your bass overshadowing your other sounds.
