Crackling In Logic Pro X

I use logic pro x as my daw. I'm running it on a macbook pro with an i5 processor @ 2.5 GHz with 4gb ram and 500 gb hard drive and every time I record a verse there is crackling in the vocals. i have tried recording with the volume lower, messing with the buffer size just about everything but I still have the problem. Can somebody help me out?

what buffer size are you using for the mic itself?

How is your audio interface plugeed in? Thru midi or USB?

I normally use 128. I tried changing the buffer size but it was still clipping. I had to EQ and compress the vocals a ton and i got rid of a bit of it but the crackling was still there. Its sounding like its clipping but the vocals are so quiet that its impossible
