Budget condenser mics for recording pop, r&b and dance.

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum.. Found out about this forum a couple of days ago. I'm a musician myself, and I've recently started to learn about music production because over the years I have been to various studios to play but I have no idea what the producers and engineers were doing..

Although I'm in the rock scene, I'm keen to (and hopefully to) produce my own house track, something similar to Alesso, David Guetta and Calvin Harris. But first, I need some guidelines because I'm clueless about which microphones are suitable to record vocals for the music.

I understand that there are tons of microphones out there, and I'm currently using AT2020 and SM57.. But just to be sure, are there any other condenser microphones (budget) other than AT2020 that are quite well known in terms of quality?

    Thanks!

at2035 is a step up from the at2020 but sound about the same. mostp eople will end up recommending some mxl crap mic. not saying htey crap its jsut what peopel will say to get. i went ahead and ditched condensers and got a broadcasting mic the re320. id settle with a sm57 though its good enough for home studios. unless you silenced your room condensers arent worth it. and the sm57 can produce all you need for professional tracks. just focus on your music fool.

Look for a Rode NT2. Not tha NT2a, but the older version. It delivers a clean sound that works for pop and R&B. You should be able to find it for less than $300. The NT2 has a slight boost in the high end that will probably help with most vocals unless you have vocalists in the lower registers.

You require decent quality condenser mic.... insert 1/100 name of mic here xxxxxxxxx
Most important get a good stand and a good pop shield.

No such thing as 1 mic to capture all vocalists nicely, all voices are different I would go for one good mic that has the best chance. Something like an AT4033. If budget is an issue go listen to some cheap ones in a booth in a shop if possible.

I'd recommend a few MXL mics actually. They aren't all bad, just got to pick the one for your needs.

To the OP: We need a budget so we can help you really narrow it down. Otherwise you'll get shots in the dark. Also if you can look used on your local classifieds you may end up with something really nice for a lot less than you thought.
