all of them gonna be close to the same.

i personally used the samson co1u and m audio usb joints, but i went through the internet listening to the quality of other usb mics from songs people post, and they generally have the same average quality.

my samson tends to have less a lower end than the m audio, and the m audio vocals come out kind of thicker, but less high end.

of course the mixing can ultimately determine the outcome.

IMO the best way to get the best sounding mic is to avoid usb because you don't have access to different mic pres which can drastically change the sound. I would also recommend finding the right mic for your voice rather than some random mic that you got because it was cheap.

Recording environment is probably an even bigger part of the equation too.

Since I built and treated my isolation booth (double walled, air-tight as possible, good mix of absorbtion and reflection)... I haven't heard one complaint about the quality of my AKG Perception 120.

I bought it new in '04 for maybe $200 or so. It goes for like $100 used now. Could probably find it for $90 or so.

    Sure:

Walkin Contradiction | Hillside, NJ | Other / Spoken Soul / Smooth Hip Hop | Music, Lyrics, Songs, and Videos | ReverbNation

This is one of the artists I work the closest with.

    Listen to "A Better Man".

    - That's probably one of the cleanest songs I've done to date. I did the production and mixed. Song was done last year. That's also my verse at the very end. I think I mixed my own vocals way too low.. i've gotten a little better at mixing my own stuff since then lol.

I also produced & mixed "It's your Birthday", which is one of my favorites... and I'm the main emcee on "Stop the Violence".

The details of the mic are best heard on "A Better Man" though.

I agree. Try your best to stay away from USb mics. They are simple and cheap yes, but, lack so much on the quality side of it. Price point, you can get a decent interface with a somewhat decent preamp for around a hundred, then add on a good quality condenser mic for maybe 2 bills, so you'de be looking at maybe 300 to get you going. Examples would be a simple presonus 2 channel USB interface, coupled up with say a RODE NT1 or something along those lines. But if you absolutely need to have the USB right from the mic, try one of these, they are going to be a fairly reliable mics all under 300: Shure PG42USB, Audiotechnica 2020USB, Blue Yeti Pro USB.

I have used a Bluemic Yetti for a lot of "Mixtape"/ remixes. I just didn't have the money for a whole rig, and when I bought this I was very impressed. I mix everything on logic pro so if you would like an example for the quality just let me know
