Weird problem with kick clipping

Hello fellow producers,

I'm having a problem with my mix that i can not seem to solve.

my kick keeps clipping, even though it is below the 0db threshold. the only solution seems to be lowering the master volume, which in turn makes my mix really quiet. The remainder of the track is not clipping at all, and the samples used for the kick are clean and do not contain any form of distortion whatsoever.

i'm hoping that someone here might have the answer to my problem, even though it might be a stupid question.

all the best,

Sjoerd

"Back to formula." It might be the kick; sometimes it's the sum combination of other tracks. Strip it down to a re-mix, and lower the master volume and lower the individual channels, which will give you more headroom. Save the volume maximization for the mastering/mix optimization stage.

It's a good habit to have 5-6Dbs of headroom on Master channel, 'cause it may prevent you from encountering this.
