Treating congas/bongos

Just added some percussion to my drums, a couple congas, and ive been working a lot of really bringing each element out before I move on. My kick, clap, snare etc..are all really nice and punchy right now. Im used to processing them though because ive done it a lot. Haven't worked with congas a whole lot, I'm assuming its the same process basically but I was curious about some feedback anyway.

How do you treat congas or bongos to give them some life in the mix?

Hey man. I was recently working on some overdubbed congas for a funk band and I was going for a kind of raw and roomy sound. I tried overcompression, saturation, A LP filter around 1.5/2k. Then played with a slap delay, some phasery stuff (can sound great in the right context), and verb. In the end I didnt use most of that and they sounded great for what I wanted just being bussed pretty hard into the drums parallel compressor.
Hope theres some ideas worth using in there for you though :)

I treat them just as bandcoach said: like the rest of my drums. Once you get the mixing right, you'll notice how they shine pretty with the main elements.
