Recording out of a Califone record player

I just got a Califone 1430k record player and I want to try and sample records with it. It has a 1/4 inch external speaker output. I don't want to plug into my audio interface and blow it because the level is too high or something like that tho. If anyone could give me some advice that would be very appreciated

Plug it in with the volume turned down, and then slowly raise it to an acceptable level.
