A question about mixing vocals

If you record your vocals in mono, is it ok to use stereo effects on them, or should I only use mono effects on them?

i mean, it is really okay to do whatever you want. Depends on the sound you are going for, although with stereo widening on a mono vocal track it will obviously widden out the track. This might make the vocal seem not as in the center of the mix...my best advice would be to record 3 tracks of the same vocal. Pan one hard left and one hard right then use those as a "backing vocal". but i mean, theres no right or wrong way to do anything. That is just what i do. Hope this helped!

most vocals are mono with stereo effects - example reverb on a lead , or a stereo delay , this is actually the norm.

another good trick if you wanna go wide but dry , copy vocal to another track , move it forward by a few milliseconds and change the pitch by 1 or 2 cents , pan it , this will give you the width without needing an effect , ive been doing it for years.

good luck
