I'm having a hard time getting results I want. Does anyone have any tips?

My current mic setup isn't that great, ST51 with a old Firepod 8.

Post-recording compression, eq, desser, then try messing around with Oxford Inflator and Waves Doubler. You could also layer the vocal, lower volume on layered track and try a lo-fi degrade plugin like the free MDA Degrade. Reverb and delay is dependant on the vibe you're looking for so try those too.

Also on either the layered track or main, try a tape simulation effect. Another thing, E-phonics Xpressor might be worth messing around with too although somewhat similar to Doubler.

Try layering your recorded vocals with another live take so that you have two tight vocals running at the same time with subtle differences. One should be about 70% and other 30% of the overall volume (approx).

A separate set of recorded overdubs to emphasis rhymes or emotions also helps.
