mixing: filling up the spectrum

hey guys, is it always a must to fill up the spectrum ? because i have seen som ed tracks with like really thin leads on em

I don't think there are solid rules to any music creation. Some of the best music we all know today is rather "thin".

If it's instrumental only, typically it's better to fill it up but like any good producer says: if it sounds good it is good. Don't get too bent up on "rules" (though of course there are some smart ones to follow lol)

I hate to say this but thinking about filling up the spectrum is the wrong way to be thinking about creating or mixing a track

- you get the sounds and tones you track and then you mix them, rather than worrying about "am I covering every single part of the audible spectrum?"

- doing the latter will only force you to consider adding more and more sounds that aren't needed

I really wouldn't do that far as filling up the audio spectrum of a song it can become "too busy" there are no rules just what has an appealing sound
