I don't know about "the best out there" but he's decent for the price. I also had communication problems with him. The return timeline on his site is way off. I could understand a day or 2 going by without returning emails but weeks at a time is unacceptable to me. When mentioning his site he always says "we" which leads me to assume it's not just one person overwhelmed with work, so I don't see why someone can't handle communications in a professional manner. The engineer I work with now costs more (300 per track) but his professionalism with regards to communication is on point. I was skeptical at first with the price but he offered a free mix and master so I sent a song that I originally had Mike mix and master and the result was night and day. he said "you get what you pay for" before I sent him the song and now I know what he meant. He's done work for numerous Grammy winning artists and if one person working by them self can cater to the small people I don't see why mikes can't

Three different people on this forum have hired this guy and had what I consider to be inexcusable problems - and two had to file payment disputes. That is downright pathetic. I've been in this business full-time for over 15 years. Over a thousand records, hundreds of clients, and nobody has EVER had to file a payment dispute with me and nobody has EVER had a problem getting me to reply PROMPTLY to an e-mail. You DO get what you pay for for the most part when it comes to mixing.

There's no excuse for bad communication with clients.
    It is ridiculous.

I've been following this thread and have wanted to share my own experience for a bit, but didn't know if I should. I thought that I was the only one facing similar problems, but finding this page makes me realise I'm not alone.

I've worked with Mike on more than one occasion. He was actually one of the first engineers I worked with online, being in a remote location back then. I've also encountered the same problems as some of you guys mentioned here.

    1) timeline - takes long to respond, with unreliable turn around time. I've had to push back projects several times.
    2) mix quality wasn't good - (I score music for media and one of the main companies I worked with turned the tracks mix/mastered by him down citing lack of mix clarity.)

There were times where I received "mixed" tracks back without any effects applied to them (???) asking me to check if I was satisfied with their work, tracks that I specified that required fade-outs or fade-ins that were not done (even though their engineers said that this would be done during mastering).

Each time they were apologetic and said they would respond faster, tried to make it up by offering discounts, offered me a free mix on my next project (but still sent me an invoice anyway)... So why did I go back to them after 1 mess up? They were the most affordable at the time when I was still a college student trying to get some work "cleaned up" by professionals.

Similar to the OP, I never received the free social media promotion they talked about either. It's easy to tell people to contact you if you have problems with a service rendered, but who would want to contact a company that takes forever to reply, not knowing if they would offer you a botched job or not once again?

I have no doubt in Mike & co's abilities, I just feel that they are extremely bias in who's work they take seriously. I work with a different engineer now and I can also vouch that the difference in terms of quality of work and communication is massive.

Also, I'm not too sure what "being no 1." actually means in the audio engineering world. Who ranks you? Are we talking about google indexing or SEO?

To be fair, Someone offering you online audio mix and mastering services online should be in regular contact. We would never leave any client hanging period.

    I'm guessing you are kidding?

(not saying that $70 is nothing, but in the world of professional mixing/mastering it is basically working for free)

    I am expressing my opinion.
Please feel free to express yours, too.
This is a discussion forum, after all.
    Have fun.

Found MikesMixMaster on google about a year ago when searching for online mixing and mastering, was a bit skeptical at first but after the first service was complete it was so good that Ive been using MMM for all of my releases since, excellent communication and quick turnarounds plus the quality is amazing. Mikes work has helped increase my sales last year and can't thank him enough. I hate to hear about what happened to Cybeat, I do understand things happen but I say give Mike a chance, and I don't think its just me!
