How to record loud race car sounds with countryman B3 and Sony Lav and GoPro

I need to record sound from really loud race exaust. My mic does 140db and I plug it into Sony UHF lavaliere receiver/transmitter setup and then into GoPro or Drift Ghost camera. The sound does not sound natural to me. It sounds colored and/or distorted. Do you think it's the camera? I don't think it should matter at that level that the sounds are loud. The mic is the main thing handling the intense SPL. Then it produces a strong signal that the UHF transmitter should handle fine. I set attenuation to 22 I think on the Sony transmitter. Then the signal sent to receiver and then camera should be just like any other sound? The loud sounds should stop at transmitter with the attenuation set high. Do I really need to replace camera with something like a Zoom?

I can provide link to sound recording so you hear what I do.
