How do I get that Jay-Z distorted electronic feel to my voice?

You can hear it sometimes in his voice, especially when he holds notes out. I need it to be a VST plugin, since I use Audacity. Any ideas?

You've gotta be talking about preamp saturation unless you're referring to a specific song. Jay usually does clean recordings without a lot of effects, doubles, or adlibs.

Any guitar distortion amp could accomplish this as well.

A vintage compressor or channel strip whould probably be more accurate. You're gonna want something that emulates a "tube amp".

Unless you guys are talking about a specific song, Jay's not using guitar amps regularly. Again, that's tube saturation adding that color to his vocals on like 99% of his material. .

Good advice so far. I would add that this is best done as a parallel effect so you can just blend in a small amount of the distortion when you need it
