For those of you with opinions on the matter, I'd like to hear what your favorite pre's are for miking different parts of drumsets. I don't have a lot of personal experience with many different pre's, even though I've recorded drum tracks a few times, but I know that two overheads, my kick, and my snare all sounded pretty good through a UA 4110. They were not terribly well-mixed afterwards, but the initial product from different takes sounded great when using the same mics I'd already heard through a Firepod and two MP20's. Obviously they are completely different quality pre's and from very different price ranges, but I guess that goes to show that quality doesn't come cheap, haha.
Anyway, if any of you have favorite preamps for kick drums (batter head, inside, or front head), snare (batter side, shell, or snare side), overheads, tom close-mics, cymbal (ride and hi-hat) close-mics, or any other kind of percussion (I've been experimenting miking marimbas lately), I'd love to know.
