Hello guys to which meter Vu ( the one which is in compressor) or the peak level meter (my Daw level meter) should i refer when applying make up gain after compressing. Its strange for my for example i compress kick drum by 5 db Gain reduction my peak level meter shows that i need to apply 0,8 db of gain while my compressor plugin shows that i need to apply 5 db of gain because thats how much of compression im doing. So to which meter i need refer when applying make up gain after compression. Thx

It depends what you have selected to be displayed by the compressor's metering. If it is set to GR - gain reduction then you are seeing the reduced value. If it is set to IN - then that is your input value.

DAW's generally work off PPM - program peak metering and tbh we don't use that anymore as we tend to opt for LU/LUFS metering for the various outputs. Most DAWs will have some form of either LUFS metering or RMS metering.

I tend to work with LU as it helps me the most for what I produce to.
