does anyone have any tips on how i can maximise the amount of audio channels i can use simultaneously using cubase??? i have a pentium III, 128mb ram, 20gig hard disk....are there any specific memory settings that will improve audio performance (stop audio glitches, breaks, etc....)..???

Yes....

Use a separate hard drive for audio - not a separate partition - but a PHYSICALLY separate drive. Also - put that drive on a different IDE cable to your current drive - so that both program data - and audio may be accessed simultaneously.

Defragment the audio drive regularly.

Most modern drives have DMA (direct memory addressing). This can cut processor overheads massively - but it isn't enabled by default by windows! Open the 'SYSTEM' applet of the CONTROL PANEL, and in device manager find your hard drives. For each one, tick the DMA box in the properties window. Then restart your computer. If the drives do not support DMA, it'll be disabled again - but if they do - happy camping!
