A Butter God is commanding the grim reaper (Craig) to carry out his sick and twisted deeds because of a rough history between Butter God and Mr Toast. Grim unwillingly carries out his orders until eventually he snaps and decided to rid the city of the filthy cretins that dwell within it



I would highly appreciate any feedback and comments. Especially from this forum. Tell me what you notice in the background, hopefully I have done what I set out to do. which was make a video you could watch 500 times and still not see everything. ENJOY!!!





This video was created by just 2 people, Ben Daure & Tom Box within After Effects and Photoshop over 8 solid months

Yep... it took 8 long months to create this video, and not 8 months on and off. 8 months of working a regular 9-5 job then coming home and working until 1 in the morning virtually every night and all through the weekend.

What started out as a simple idea quickly turned into the single most colossal project we had ever taken on. Many of the shots were scaled up and up during the original draft and for the majority we had absolutely no idea how to achieve the look we wanted, it was only through completing the first half of the animation that we realised how to achieve what we didn't think was possible.

About half way through I had to switch to a more powerful computer (when the 3d stuff starts to crop in) as one of the shots was going to take 3 days to render, then a later shot was going to take 10 DAYS!!!. This is because the whole thing was build within after effects, which probably wasn't really meant for this type for video. So when 900 stupidly high resolution 3d buildings are in 1 scene before the actual build... everything tends to die a bit.

The video was completed on the 24th of December 2010 at 19:00 and then finalised on the 4th of January 2011

For anyone interested in the how we made it:

First I came up with the idea for the video, went through the track and separated it into a rough text edit describing the layout of the shot and exactly how long it was

The it gets storyboarded (Badly because I can't draw AT ALL) and sent to Box for AMAZIFYING (yep....real word)

Box then try's..... and try's to decipher what is actually going on in the storyboard before drawing it in Photoshop whilst separating each layer so that it is prepared for animating

I then squirt the Photoshop file into After Effects where it is timed, built and animated (which sounds a lot easier than it actually is, especially within the 3D shots)

It was done on both a Mac and a Pc but I had to switch to the Mac after the clicky fingers shot as the computer simply didn't have enough ram and couldn't handle it. Any fan boys of Apple out there who are all smug now can go to hell because the Mac crashed about 400% more than the PC and had infinitely more problems, even though it was 3 times as powerful. **** APPLE

man, i took Photoshop 1&2, as well as Aftereffects 1&2, and i can honestly appreciate the work that went into this! i know there was alot to keep track of in AE, and you guys did a great job. i love Photoshop and Aftereffects. tight work my man!

Кто-то постучал в дверь. Открыл дверь. Возле двери стоит девушка и смотрит на меня с недоумением. С виду очень даже ничего. Первое, что приходит на ум спросить - кто такая и что тут забыла? А она отвечает, что в квартиру свою арендованную приехала. Стоим, тупо разглядываем друг друга. Ей повезло, что она женщина, а не мужчина. Иначе было бы его лицо поцарапано. А поскольку это не так, то пустить её к себе - было единственным, что мне оставалось поделать. На протяжении всего последующего вечера с языка не сходила одна единственная тема - аренда жилья. Делали попытки дозвониться хозяйке квартиры, но телефон её был отключен. Я очень люблю свою жену. Вот поэтому аренда элитных квартир была единственной темой, на которой мы остановились. Да уж, в ней было всё, чтобы заманить любого мужчину. Внимательность - это определённый гарант собственного благополучия. Именно такой вывод я сделал после этого события. Аренда квартир цены на которую меня теперь интересуют менее всего, теперь делается мною только лишь через фирмы и компании.

Life without surprises and unexpected surprises absolutely boring. I, for one more recently learned again. Although rent was the unexpected support of these surprises, which I did not here waiting. A bit more about this event. Well, in short, soaped in Moscow to earn money. I called back the familiar. Came the urgent question - where to rent an apartment? I've heard before, that the rent of apartments in Moscow requires very careful attention, so that it can bypass the negative precedents. Perhaps I've read and heard enough. In short, I stopped at the option to rent an apartment in the prime property. Phoned the owner, found it all the moments. Agreed that the lease apartments will be awarded immediately upon arrival. It encouraged me and I went. Arrived. On the phone I knew that come the landlady does not work and that I need to ask the key from the neighbors of the apartment that I rented. I did not get upset. Himself or once refused the planned activities because of a dramatically changed circumstances. Taking a taxi, I quickly and easily find the address of my rented apartment. There was all without cheating. The neighbors, I found the key, as we agreed with the hostess. I am the way, and not angry. Apartment impressed me - was comfortable and warm. I quickly settled down, dismantled, bought and glued to the telly. Someone knocked at the door. Opened the door. Near the door there is a girl and looks at me with bewilderment. It looks very much even anything. The first thing that comes to mind to ask - who is she and what's forgotten? And she said that in his rented apartment came. Standing stupidly at each other. She was lucky that she was a woman, not man. Otherwise it would be his face scratched. And since it is not, then let it to yourself - was the only thing left for me to do. Throughout the subsequent evenings with the language did not leave a single theme - rental housing. Attempted to call landlady, but her phone was disconnected. I love my wife. That's why renting luxury apartments has been the only topic on which we stopped. Yeah, it had everything to lure any man. Care - it is a certain guarantee of their own wealth. This is the conclusion I did after this event. Apartments for rent prices for which I was now interested in the least, I have now done only by companies and firms.

Thanks very much, to do this animation I didn't go anywhere It was based on theorys of how to do things then just testing them and testing them until I got what i wanted, or roughly anyway. It was all helped by Box's incredible artwork though.

This kind of work deserves respect. Adobe makes some powerful tools for the people who know how to use them. You're definitely one of them.
 
The animation is amazing ...I'm not heavy into rockand roll my son is tho ......awesome job
 
Intense.

Did you draw this in the computer frame by frame? I'm doing some Rotoscope work soon so I can appreciate the painstaking work involved.
 
The artwork was great. I know the pain of animation in after effects/photoshop but not to this level of skill lol
