good programs for video editing?

Sony Vegas Pro is good. I am a Final Cut Pro 7 Native and I switched over to Vegas Pro with no problem. So far it does everything I need.

Yeah, it looks like in this range you should go with Sony Vegas. However, if you are looking for other programs to aid you in your video converting/editing process, good programs to grab are MPEG Streamclip, Handbrake, VLC, and be sure to make sure you have a good codec pack that handles various codecs.

Bit technical but great once you get your head around it.

I'll second Lightworks. It's free, and even Hollywood studios use it. Pulp Fiction, Gangs of New York, Good Will Hunting - all edited on Lightworks.
