any tips for making music for short vids?

my cousin and I are starting to make short story type films for youtube. They are gonna be anywhere from comedy to mistery, suspense, & action. I have been making music for a while but never for videos... I'm planning on using the FL Studio video player to put original sounds on our vids but I am kinda stuck when I try to make something...

any tips on how this is done?
ps. we want to use our own original sounds so we can monetize the videos

I guess I'll just learn as I go... the FL video player seems to work pretty good.. my only complain is that it doesn't take mp4 format which is pretty standard in the industry

You don't say what you're stuck on. Or what problem you're trying to sort out.

Yeah, but you don't score or create your music around the full resolution version of your video. You should have a low resolution, smaller video to create your music around or time your sound effects to. In that case the format doesn't matter. Make one for whatever FL uses. And you adjust the music and the video to work together. Then when you are done sound mixing you import the finished track into your main video editing program.
